Content Optimization for Improved SEO

Content Optimization for Improved SEO

How to achieve better results in SEO optimization through a jungle of recommendations and unclear rules? Continue reading... maybe we can help some of you :)

Content optimization for improved SEO, while maintaining its quality, involves balancing the strategic placement of keywords, content structure, and user-friendly elements, all while ensuring that the content remains useful, engaging, and high-quality.

With such a cold introduction, an idiom comes to mind, which, completely distorted, goes: “If SEO optimization were easy, everyone would be an SEO expert!” or something to that effect. In short, you get the idea – some will optimize content without issues, while for others, it will be an insurmountable obstacle.

So that the latter do not feel alone and abandoned, there are companies, businesses, and individuals who offer exactly that – optimizing your content or writing and optimizing for specific SEO needs.

What should always be kept in mind is that optimized content must be understandable to its intended audience (so that you don’t end up with all the keywords and phrases, but the end-user wonders what it’s all about 🙂 )

Below, we provide an overview of the most important phases in SEO content optimization, along with an example – so whoever has the will and time, feel free to try it themselves 🙂

Keyword Research

Identify Primary and Secondary Keywords: Begin by researching relevant keywords related to the topic you are writing about (in our example, let’s say: Digital Marketing).

Tools like Google Keyword Planner, Ahrefs, or SEMrush can help in finding terms with high popularity (search volume) and low competition (this allows for better positioning, as logically there is less competition).

Use Phrases or Long-Tail Keywords

These phrases are longer and more specific, often having less competition, and can attract targeted traffic. For example, instead of just “Digital Marketing,” you can use phrases like “How Digital Marketing Helps with X” or “Best Practices for Digital Marketing.”

Include Related Terms

In addition to the primary keyword, include related terms (synonyms or keyword variations) to help search engines better understand the depth of your content. This approach also enriches the content for readers and makes it more engaging (remember that the user must first be attracted to read, then be intrigued by the content, and last but not least, find the reading engaging).

Title Optimization

Include the Primary Keyword: The title should be appealing and informative, while also containing the primary keyword. It should not exceed 60 characters for optimal display in search results.

Add an interesting hook or, as we say, a “catch”: The title should be attractive with a promise of value, e.g., “Mastering Digital Marketing: A Comprehensive Guide for xx.

Meta Description

Write a clear and concise meta description: This should be a condensed version of 150-160 characters that includes the main keyword. This description will appear in search results, so it must encourage users to click.
Add a CTA (Call to Action or Poziv na akciju): Phrases like “Learn more,” “Discover how,” or “View” can make the description more engaging.

Using H1, H2, H3 as HTML Heading Tags

Use H1 for the main title: The main title of your article should be an H1 tag. This is important for SEO, as well as for clear content structure for readers.

Structure the rest of the content with H2 and H3: Divide the article into readable sections with H2 and H3 tags. Include relevant keywords in some of these headings, but do not overdo it. Each heading should introduce a logically separate part of the article or content.

Internal and External Links

Internal Links: Link to other related pages or articles on your website. This helps readers explore more of your content and simultaneously improves SEO.

External Links: Link to authoritative and high-quality external sites. This helps establish credibility and context for your readers.

Readability Optimization

Short Paragraphs and Sentences: Use concise sentences and paragraphs to improve readability. This makes your content easier for both users and search engines to understand.

Bullet Points or Lists: These tools allow readers to quickly scan key information and can improve engagement.

Avoid Keyword Stuffing: Although keywords are important, their excessive use can make content unnatural and harm SEO rankings. Focus first on quality writing.

Content Quality

Answer Questions: People often search for specific questions. Try to anticipate what your audience is looking for in your article and clearly answer those questions.

Engage the Reader: Use a conversational tone where appropriate. Write for your audience, ensuring that the content is informative, useful, and entertaining.

Content Length: Although longer content (over 1000 words) usually ranks better, make sure every word adds value. Do not just write for the sake of word count.

Image Optimization

Use relevant, high-quality photos or illustrations: If you include images in your article, make sure they are relevant and high-quality. Images can improve user engagement and time spent on the page.

Alt Text: Always include descriptive alt text for your images. It should briefly explain what the image depicts and, if possible, include keywords.

Mobile Optimization

Responsive Design: Ensure that your content is easily readable on mobile devices. For some time now, Google has been giving greater value and attention to mobile versions of websites when ranking.

Loading Speed: A slow-loading page can negatively impact SEO. Compress images and minimize unnecessary code to ensure fast page loading.

Content Updates

Update Old Content: SEO is not a one-time task. Regularly updating your content with new information can help it remain relevant and maintain good rankings.

Example for 'Digital Marketing'

Let’s assume you are writing an article on the topic of “How Digital Marketing Improves Business Strategies.

  • Primary Keyword: “digital marketing strategies”
  • Secondary Keywords: “how digital marketing helps in business,” “best practices for digital marketing”
  • Meta Description: “Learn how digital marketing improves business strategies with innovative tools and techniques. Discover tips for effectively using digital marketing in your business.”

By following these steps, you can optimize your article for SEO, while simultaneously maintaining its quality, ensuring that it remains useful and engaging for readers.
